Language
Language - putting words together to convey meaning - is for everyone!
Our mission is to help you achieve the "best communication possible", for you or the people you support. Communication is the exchange of information between individuals. Communication depends on language. Language is a tool for independent communication. With language and communication in place, you can start to develop literacy skills.
The three most common methods of representing language in a communication aid are:
-
Single-meaning pictures (e.g. Rebus, PCS and other symbol sets)
-
Semantic Compaction (also known as Minspeak), which uses multi-meaning symbols
-
Spelling or word-based systems (a spelling keyboard, usually with word prediction and sometimes whole-word selection)
You will find one or more of these approaches on every communication aid, but Liberator is the only company to offer you the power and flexibility of all three through our standard vocabulary programmes, such as:
You can select from the large choice of popular standard vocabulary programmes summarised in this section. Many of these, and the teaching and clinical resources that support them, are linked to the national school curriculum, 'P' Levels, PIVATs, Derbyshire Language Scheme and other recognised programmes.
